Decade in Review | 2011 of 2019

I will be combing through the photo archives from the last ten years to highlight how my decade has gone. Ideally I will be able to select a photo from each month of each year of the past decade. I will try to post a year every couple days. For the most part they will either be related to my growth as a photographer or be related to some significant event in my life (or both). And yes I do realize that starting in January 2009 and going to December 2019 will technically be 11 years, but more is better, right? And there was that 2009 vs 2019 challenge thing that’s been going around the internet so the numbers stuck. Anyhow, I present to you: 2011.

January 2011

More snow again. This time it shut down our school for the first week of the semester. A couple of us decided to pass the time taking photos around campus and someone brought along his Wall-E.

February 2011

This building was deemed for demolition, so as a school of future engineers and architects, we decided to have a watch party. It was a fun weekend to socialize with people and watch things implode.

March 2011

Went to visit my sister in DC. I spent a long time taking photos of these ducks flying around and landing and this was the best one I had.

April 2011

The College of Architecture put on the first Beaux Arts Ball (at least since I’ve been there) and we had to design a costume and have someone model. We used the NOS energy drink cans as part of the design and applied the blue and orange eyeshadow to match.

May 2011

My friend and his then girlfriend visiting Portland from Michigan. They are now married with two kids and moved back to the Portland area.

June 2011

My cousin’s graduation! He’s the last cousin to attend the same high school as me.

July 2011

Waking up for a summer Alaskan sunrise (very very early) to do some fishing. Other than having a seagull poop on me, it was a very peaceful and relaxing trip.

August 2011

The light wells on top of the Renzo Piano designed High Museum of Atlanta. One of the cool perks of being an architecture student is to gain access to the roofs of buildings.

September 2011

Our structures class had a bridge design competition and this was our entry. We named it FLABSLAB, which stands for “Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Bee”. We knew we wanted to get this bridge as light as possible because it was easier to increase the bridge’s efficiency by decreasing the weight. We used aluminum for the frame that will be in compression and fishing line for all the parts that would be in tension. We won the competition by a long shot.

November 2011

Every once in a while I’ll help some of my friends take photos of their intramural events.

December 2011

End of the semester model photo documentation. This particular project was a design studio for both digital and analog arts.
