Decade in Review | 2010 of 2019

I will be combing through the photo archives from the last ten years to highlight how my decade has gone. Ideally I will be able to select a photo from each month of each year of the past decade. I will try to post a year every couple days. For the most part they will either be related to my growth as a photographer or be related to some significant event in my life (or both). And yes I do realize that starting in January 2009 and going to December 2019 will technically be 11 years, but more is better, right? And there was that 2009 vs 2019 challenge thing that’s been going around the internet so the numbers stuck. Anyhow, I present to you: 2010.

January 2010

First basketball game seeing future NBA stars Iman Shumpert and Derrick Favors. Derrick held the door open for me once outside the campus convenience store and Iman and I sat next to each other at a couple volleyball games due to mutual friends.

February 2010

First snow of the winter and my first Atlanta snow experience.

March 2010

This was my first time shooting a concert with stage lighting and an ultra wide angle lens. The Rocketboys are still around I think.

April 2010

This was the first decently paying photography gig I got. We were hired to photograph an MBA program’s golf shindig and make sure that everyone got to take a photo with Buzz, the GT mascot. It was a lot of fun and this photo basically encapsulates that.

May 2010

Shanghai Expo 2010. Just hordes of people in the summer humidity and heat. Gross.

June 2010

A rare moment of peace in the middle of the Shanghai Financial District. The usually crowded roads and sidewalk cleared out for just a brief moment while these two random guys got to share a moment taking in the ever changing skyline.

July 2010

A rare clear sky day in Shanghai. I even think I can see a star.

August 2010

My first photo taken with an iPhone (4).

September 2010

We were using foamcore as the main modeling material and had to go through a lot of x-acto blades. And thus began the anti-zen garden.

October 2010

This was my first time extensively experimenting with strobes, lens filters, and gels.

November 2010

I met Wongfu Productions! I helped photograph their speaking event on campus and they were kind enough to ask if I would like a photo taken with them since I’ve been behind the camera all day.

December 2010

This basically encapsulates the general feeling of the final night of studio at the end of the toughest semester I’ve experienced in architecture school.
